German Word of the Day

As seen in a newspaper headline: *

Parkraumbewirstschafungskonzept

What might it mean?
1. Fungal sausage with meat chunks from the town of Konzept
2. Concept for the enhanced commercialization of parking spaces
3. Utilitarian approach for improved zoning of the building referendum
4. Notion put forth to reroute the traffic zone for the first referendum

*Word of the day contributed by American-born, New York City nurtured, German-raised, US-educated Man of the World and fellow Basel expat Chris.

It means “concept for commercialization of a public recreation area” – leave it to the Germans to make things sound more complicated than they need to be.

Also, my husband said you forgot the letter “t” that comes after the “f”. Don’t you proofread?

You are correct, the answer is 2. My translator was German. Your husband is using the Austrian spelling. Plus the headline is in Swiss German, not high German. And I can’t spell, anyway. So we’re all just lucky I didn’t spell something which translated as “monkey squatting over a glass cocktail table ready to take a sexual dump” (which is only one letter away from what I wrote)
